France, captained by a well-known player, and the United States women’s basketball team are engaged in a fierce gold medal match right now.
One of France’s top players for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris is Gabby Williams, the fourth overall choice selected out of UConn in 2018. Although she was selected by the Chicago Sky, she began playing professionally abroad after the 2022 campaign.
Williams is American, but because her mother, Therese, is from the nation hosting the Olympics this year, she is qualified to represent France in the games. Williams participated in the Olympics in Tokyo as well and finished third there.

Williams, a standout player at UConn and former WNBA player, is qualified to play for France because her mother Therese is a native of that nation. Despite having grown up in the United States, Williams speaks French fluently, as she revealed to ESPN in 2021.
The 5-foot-11 forward currently plays overseas for Fenerbahce in Istanbul after being selected by the Chicago Sky with the fourth overall pick in the 2018 WNBA Draft.
Williams helped the Huskies make it to the Final Four in 2017 and was selected to the first team of the All-America team. That season, she worked as a teammate with Olympic athlete Napheesa Collier from Team USA.
