Lee Zeldin, a former Republican Representative from New York, has been appointed by Donald Trump to be the head of the Environmental Protection Agency. The 44-year-old represented eastern Long Island as a Republican congressman for four terms. Kathy Hochul defeated him in the 2022 campaign for governor of New York.
“I am really humbled that President Trump has asked me to be a member of his Cabinet. In a statement to the New York Post, Zeldin stated, “As EPA Administrator, we will reestablish American energy dominance, revitalize our auto industry to bring back American jobs, make the United States the global leader in the advancement of artificial intelligence, and cut the red tape that prevents American workers from achieving upward economic mobility.”
“We will achieve all of this while maintaining the health of the American people, preserving our environment, and preserving access to clean air and water. I’m excited to support President Trump’s plan to create a more prosperous future for our country,” he continued.
With a solid background in law, Lee has been a steadfast advocate for America First principles. “He will set new standards on environmental review and maintenance that will allow the United States to grow in a healthy and well-structured way,” the president-elect stated in a statement on Truth Social.
“I have known Lee Zeldin for a long time and have seen him brilliantly handle some very complex and challenging situations,” Trump continued. Having him in the Trump Administration makes me very proud, and I know he will contribute greatly in the near future.
The Senate, which is controlled by Republicans, will need to confirm the nomination.
