On August 10, the police detained the accused in the brutal rape and killing of a post-graduate trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College. According to reports, Sanjoy Roy, the accused, has admitted to the crime. He was an outsider who frequently visited the hospital’s grounds. He was placed on 14 days of police remand. “This is a horrific crime, and the arrested person is allegedly involved based on circumstantial evidence, including accounts of the other doctors present during night-duty hours,” said Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal.
On the accused’s phone, police discovered explicit videos. He was recognized as a member of a West Bengal-based organization that was established to assist the police and a civic volunteer. It was included in the Police Welfare Board as well. He was able to enter the hospital grounds with ease because of this. He was observed entering the hospital around four in the morning during the investigation.
The accused reportedly had earbuds on the day of the incident when he checked into the hospital. But as they were leaving the hospital, the earphones vanished and were found by the authorities. The earphones made it easier for the police to find the offender. In accordance with BNS Sections 64 and 103, the accused has been booked.
The Mamata government promises to pursue the accused’s execution.
Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, declared in her speech that she would pursue the death penalty for the defendants. Abhishek Banerjee, national general secretary of the TMC, had demanded that those accused of such crimes face “capital punishment or encounter.”

They arrived at the CMOH office in a group today and demanded that the man be punished and that the medical staff be given security.

They have since filed a case with the Tala Police Station. “This is definitely not a case of suicide; the woman was murdered following sexual assault,” a police officer told PTI.
