One of the biggest US airlines, Delta, expressed sympathy in a since-deleted tweet in response to a post that falsely claimed that two of its flight attendants, who were wearing Palestinian flag pins, were wearing “Hamas badges.”
Due to a social media post it made on the Palestinian flag, Delta Air Lines has become entangled in a major issue. One of the biggest airlines in the US, Delta, expressed sympathy in a since-deleted tweet in response to a post that falsely claimed that two of its flight attendants, who were wearing Palestinian flag pins, were wearing “Hamas badges.”
“Since 2001 we take our shoes off in every airport because a terrorist attack in US soil,” tweeted an X user on Tuesday. Imagine now boarding a Delta flight and seeing employees flying around wearing Hamas badges. How do you go about things?”
A day later, the X account for Delta Air Lines replied to the post, stating, “I understand your fear as I would be too. We hold our employees accountable for representing our culture, and we do not tolerate violations of our policies.”
The biggest Muslim advocacy group in the US, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), denounced the airline for the “racist anti-Palestinian” tweet and called for an apology.
“Whether this racist post on Delta’s X account was approved or unauthorized, Delta must apologize and take steps to educate its employees about this type of dangerous anti-Palestinian racism,” said Edward Ahmed Mitchell, the deputy director of CAIR National, in a statement. In schools and workplaces, prejudice towards Palestinian-Americans is completely out of control, and it has to end.”
Delta Air Lines’ Apology
Delta Air Lines apologized on X and stated that it “strives for an environment of inclusivity and respect for all” in response to criticism. Additionally, it stated that the offending employee “no longer supports Delta’s social channels”.
We eliminated a response on Wednesday because it did not align with our principles. We work to create an inclusive and respectful atmosphere in both our communities and on our planes. The offending employee is no longer active on Delta’s social media platforms. The airline issued an apology for the offensive post.
As stated by CBS News, the two Delta workers who were seen sporting the pins will stay on the airline’s payroll since “it was in compliance with its uniform policy”.
However, as of right now, workers will only be allowed to wear US flags on their uniforms, according to Delta.
According to Delta, “pins representing countries/nationalities of the world had previously been permitted,” as reported by CBS News.
“We’re taking this action to make sure that everyone can enjoy a secure, cozy, and friendly environment. The airline stated, “We are proud of the foundation of our brand, which is to connect the world and provide a luxury experience, as well as our broad group of customers and workers.
