    UK weather: Met Office storm alerts issued – with flooding, lightning and large hail to hit country

    This weekend, severe thunderstorms and lightning are predicted to lash much of England and Wales.

    The storms, which will come after this week’s stretch of dry, warm weather, could bring up to 70mm of rain in a matter of hours.

    Two yellow weather warnings have been issued by the Met Office for Friday and Saturday, indicating that flooding, disruptions to public transportation, and lightning-related damage to buildings are to be expected in the affected areas.

    The alert is in effect on Friday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. and covers the majority of southwest England, portions of Wales, the Midlands, and west London.

    The second warning, which covers all of Wales, south-west England, the Midlands, and portions of south-east England, is in effect starting at one in the morning on Saturday.

    The weather service has issued a warning that thunderstorms and intense showers on Saturday may be accompanied by hail and frequent lightning, with the worst-hit areas potentially receiving up to 70mm of rain.

    “We are being spoiled by almost summer’s last hurrah, but there’s a bit of a change coming down the line as we move through towards Friday, and especially the weekend,” said Met Office meteorologist Dan Stroud on Thursday.

    London and the South-East

    • Friday

    Mostly cloudy through the weekend and into the following week, with periods of prolonged, heavy rain mixed with sunny spells that may include thunderous showers. feeling steamy and muggy.

    Midlands

    • Friday

    East Midlands: Bright or warm sunny spells will develop as low cloud and hill fog burn back to the coast first thing in the morning. Possibility of some intense showers developing later. light and airy. 21°C is the maximum temperature.

    West Midlands: Overcast at first, with sunny intervals appearing in the afternoon. There’s a chance that sporadic showers could later intensify into thunderous downpours. I’m feeling cozy. 19C is the maximum temperature.

    • Saturday to Monday

    East Midlands: Saturday will be brighter, but there is a growing chance of strong, possibly thunderous showers. On Sunday, there was rain, at times heavy for some. Maybe more heavy rain on Monday. above-average temperatures.

    West Midlands: Mostly cloudy with heavy, potentially thunderous showers and longer periods of rain interspersed with sunny spells throughout the weekend and next week. feeling steamy and muggy.

    North-East

    • Friday

    At first, there will be low cloud, sporadic drizzle, and hill fog, but this will eventually burn back toward the coast. Dry elsewhere, with a few warm, bright spells coming on. Light winds. 19C is the maximum temperature.

    • Saturday to Monday

    Northern Ireland

    Saturday looks promising, with some heavier overnight showers possible. Sunday is cloudy, with possibly more light in the north. Monday is going to be windy with some showers.

    Wales

    • Friday
