With the assistance of the NDRF, SDRF, and Army, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has instructed authorities to remain vigilant and relocate people to safe areas.
Following intense rains, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will visit Pune on Monday to assess the city’s flood situation.
The Chief Minister will meet with officials to discuss relief efforts in the city and emergency preparations.
On Monday, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted strong winds in a number of western Maharashtra districts.
Notably, the release of 45,000 cusecs of water into the Mutha river basin on Sunday evening from the Khadakwasla Dam caused a flood-like situation in Pune.
In response to the weather body’s warning, the irrigation department has decided to cut water from the Khadakwasla Dam to 65%.
In addition to other rescue workers from Pune Municipal Corporation, the fire department, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), at least two columns of Army personnel have been stationed in the district.
When necessary, the Chief Minister has instructed authorities to use the NDRF, SDRF, and Army to assist in evacuating people to safe areas.
After the rains, at least two NDRF teams were sent to Balewadi, Pune, and Chinchwad.
Due to the continuous release of water from almost all of the dams in the Pune district on Sunday, the municipal corporations of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad issued warnings about possible flooding in low-lying areas.
Many dams, including those at Khadakwasla, Temghar, Varasgaon, Panshet, Pavana, Mulshi, and Bhatghar, are continuously releasing water, along with a lot of rain in the catchment areas.
It has been recommended that residents of the Patil Estate Slums, Baner, Sinhagad Road, Warje, Dandekarpul, and other surrounding areas exercise caution.
On Monday, however, all Pune schools and colleges will operate normally because the district’s situation has been under control, according to officials.
