Currently, a video of a sinking boat is going viral on social media. This video is being said to be from Goa. It is claimed that an overloaded steamer boat crashed in Goa due to which 64 people are missing and 23 bodies have been recovered. However, our investigation found this claim to be completely misleading.
A video is becoming increasingly viral on different platforms of social media. It can be seen in the video that a boat is seen sinking in the sea. Many people are also seen on the boat and these people are seen drowning in water.
What is the claim?
By sharing this video it is being claimed that this accident happened in Goa. It is being claimed that bodies of 23 people have been recovered in this accident while 40 people have been saved. Apart from this, there is also a claim of 64 people missing. It is also being claimed that the boat filled with passengers sank due to overloading.

To investigate this video, we searched keywords related to the news claim on Google. We could not find any recent news related to boat accident in Goa on the internet.
After this we searched the keyframes of the video on Google Reverse Image and from there we found a tweet related to this video. An X account named Millennial (@LikoniMP2027) shared the viral video and wrote, “A boat has capsized on the Goma/Bukavu road in DR Congo. There are many bodies in the Goma City Mortuary. May God save the passengers.”
After this we searched the keywords of this news related to Congo. Here we found a news related to the viral video on news agency Reuters. In this news published on October 2, the provincial governor was quoted as saying that 78 people drowned when their boat capsized in Congo’s Lake Kivu.
It further said that at least 78 people drowned after a boat carrying 278 passengers capsized in Lake Kivu in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo on Thursday, according to a provincial governor.
Upon further investigation, we found the viral video on the YouTube channel of another news agency, Associate Press. This video was posted on October 04.
