This virus is found in sloths, due to which it is also called Sloth Borne Virus. This disease has started wreaking havoc in European countries. This disease, known as Oropouche Fever, is caused by the Oropouche Virus. A person can fall prey to this disease due to flies and mosquitoes infected with this virus.
Oropush wreaks havoc in Europe
Let us tell you that according to the CDC, about 19 cases of Oropush have been seen in the months of June and July this year. Out of which 12 cases have been found in Spain, five in Italy and two in Germany. Before the European countries, news of the death of two people due to this virus has come to light in Brazil. This disease needs to be taken so seriously because no vaccine has been made for it yet. Therefore, the safest way is to protect yourself from getting affected by this disease.
Cases have been reported in many other countries
Outbreak of Oropush virus has been seen in many countries of South and Central America before. Apart from this, its cases have also been found in Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia and Cuba. Between January and July this year, about 8 thousand cases have been found in Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Colombia and Cuba.
Although this disease can be recovered from and the chances of death are low, it is still wise to avoid it and consult a doctor as soon as symptoms appear. Therefore, avoid going to countries where this disease is spreading rapidly or if you have to go there for some reason, then avoid fly and mosquito bites.
How to protect yourself from this?
- nStay away from mosquitoes and flies. Do not go to areas where there are a lot of mosquitoes or flies.
- To avoid this disease, wear full-sleeved clothes.
- Use mosquito net while sleeping.
- When going out, especially in the evening, apply insect repellent.
- Do not let water collect inside and around the house.
- Keep the surroundings of the house clean and do not let garbage collect.
- Always keep the dustbin covered.
- Do not defecate or urinate in the open.
