The fans’ hopes for a new reunion of The Inbetweeners have been dashed by Simon Bird.
Between 2008 and 2014, the 40-year-old actor portrayed Will McKenzie in two films and three seasons. Joe Thomas, his co-star, recently expressed interest in the cast getting back together, but Bird said that’s not going to happen.
He said to The Daily Mail, “I’m afraid to be the one pouring cold water on this, but it’s not happening.” “I can assure you without reservation that there are no plans for a reunion.
We’d be pleased to, but the decision rests with the writers, Iain Morris and Damon Beesley, who I know are both extremely busy right now.
“It’s not more likely to happen now than it was 10 years ago, I’m afraid,” he said.
“I believe it was a comedy set in a particular era. When I stated in a previous interview that it wouldn’t be made now, I think I created quite the stir on social media, but I’m not sure it would.
“So no, there has been no discussion about a new show or film.”
The main cast members, Blake Harrison, James Buckley, Bird, and Thomas, he explained, are “bonded for life” and stay in touch, but they find it challenging to get together in person. Their next get-together is scheduled for March.
He added that he frequently gets approached by strangers in the street who quote Will’s lines back to him, but he frequently doesn’t understand what they’re saying.
“I don’t watch myself back, I can’t remember the show,” he stated. Ever since I made it in 2008, I don’t think I’ve even watched it again.
“I just didn’t expect it, in a way, but there’s obviously still the appetite for it and people love it.”
Jimmy Carr hosted a reunion special called Fwends Reunited, but the audience didn’t seem to enjoy it.
