According to Halifax Regional Police (HRP), they were summoned to a Walmart where someone had died suddenly.
According to media reports, a 19-year-old Sikh lady was discovered dead inside a walk-in oven in the baking section of a Walmart supermarket in Halifax, Canada.
Around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, Halifax Regional Police (HRP) reported that they were alerted to a sudden death at the Walmart located at 6990 Mumford Road.
Police say the woman, who has not been named, worked at the store.
According to the authorities, her body was discovered in a walk-in oven.
She was a member of the Maritime Sikh Society, which confirmed this to CTV News.
Anmolpreet Singh of the Maritime Sikh Society stated, “It’s very sad for us, for her family as well, because she came for a better future and she lost her life.”
According to The Globe and Mail newspaper, she had just relocated from India to Canada.
While the inquiry is being conducted, the store has been closed since Saturday night.
Police were aware of internet rumors regarding the woman’s cause of death, according to HRP Constable Martin Cromwell.
Cromwell declared, “The investigation is complex.”
“The public is aware that there are family members and coworkers involved, and we just wanted to ask that they exercise patience while we conduct our investigation.” Halifax police, according to Cromwell, were working with the relevant authorities to support the investigation.
In a statement released on Tuesday, HRP urged the public to exercise caution while disseminating speculative material on social media.
A stop-work order has been issued for the bakery and “one piece of equipment” at the Walmart store, according to a spokeswoman for the province’s labor department.
“It is crucial to remember that the cause and manner of death have not yet been established as a result of the investigation,” HRP stated.
The province’s Department of Health and Safety is participating in the inquiry, and the medical examiner for Nova Scotia is trying to ascertain the cause of death.
Using wheeled racks or carts, walk-in ovens—also called cabinet or batch ovens—allow for batch curing, drying, or baking. They are frequently found in bakeries with high volume in establishments like supermarkets.
Walmart Canada said in a statement that it is deeply saddened and that its thoughts are with the woman’s family.
