Builders in Hemel Hempstead have discovered human remains while excavating the patio.
They called the police, who hurried to St. Mary’s House in George Street, Hemel Hempstead, on Thursday, after making the startling find.
The reason the remains—which they described as “very old”—were at the scene is being investigated by the police.
According to the Daily Mirror, the remains were “estimated to have been there many, many years” in a letter to residents from the Abbeyfield Society, which oversees the sheltered housing estate.
Construction has been put on hold so that forensic investigators can complete their investigations.
According to a Herts Constabulary spokesman, “On October 3, at 12:11 p.m., police were summoned to a property on George Street, Hemel Hempstead, about reports that human remains had been discovered during construction.
“Officers attended and are making a number of enquiries as to why the remains, which are very old, were found at the location.”
