Sen. Marie Alvarado-Gil, a Democrat who later switched to the Republican party, is charged with coercing her former chief of staff into performing sexual favors that resulted in serious injuries.
A married former staff member has accused California state senator Marie Alvarado-Gil of pressuring him into a “sex-based quid pro quo relationship” that resulted in serious injuries to his hips and back. Chad Condit, the son of former congressman Gary Condit, who was the female senator’s former chief of staff, allegedly filed a lawsuit against her last week for pressuring him to carry out explicit acts while traveling for work.
Condit asserted in the lawsuit, which was submitted to Sacramento Superior Court, that he grudgingly performed sexual favors for the Democrat-turned-Republican politician in order to maintain his employment.
The US senator’s former chief of staff is suing Alvarado-Gil for allegedly creating a “hostile work environment.” The lawsuit further claims that during their final meeting, the senator asked him to have oral sex in the small car, which caused him to suffer a back injury, three herniated discs, and a collapsed hip.
The lawsuit alleges that there was a sex-based quid pro quo relationship involving unwanted advances and sexual behaviors along with power struggles and punishment.
Condit’s complaint also highlights the fact that he was let go in December for persistently declining Alvardo-Gil’s advances while claiming a back injury. Prior to that, it was alleged that the senator, who is also married and has six children, misused her authority and wrote a disciplinary letter accusing her former aide of acting inappropriately.
In the lawsuit, the senator’s former employee claims that she was given a “lifetime free pass” to cheat on her husband. After being elected to office in 2022, Alvarado-Gil, who is described in the lawsuit as a “erratic” and “controlling” boss, initially appointed Condit as her chief of staff. The senator was still a Democratic Party member at the time.
Condit’s legal representative has also refuted her former aide’s allegations since the lawsuit surfaced.
In a statement to Politico, Ognian Gavrilov attacked the lawsuit, saying that “a disgruntled former employee has fabricated an outlandish story, presented without evidence, to get a payday.”
“We anticipate that the senator will be completely exonerated of any misconduct pertaining to these baseless, self-serving accusations.”
Last month, the senator from California announced his switch to the Republican party, stating, “The Democratic Party is not the party that I signed up for decades ago.”
