He had purchased two homes at that time: one in Dalhousie, Himachal Pradesh, and the other in Katra Sher Singh, close to Jallianwala Bagh. Justice Khanna is attempting to find the home of Katra Sher Singh.
The Katra Sher Singh home was desecrated and burned down when the country gained independence in 1947. Later on, though, his grandfather had it fixed.
Chief Justice Khanna once went to that house with his father when he was five years old. There was a sign outside the house that said “Bauji,” which translates to “Grandfather.” The Dalhousie residence still has this sign. Sources claim that the Amritsar home was sold in 1970 following Sarav Dayal’s passing.
Chief Justice Khanna still recalls that house. In order to find the residence, he visits Katra Sher Singh whenever he travels to Amritsar.
Chief Justice Khanna constantly remembers how his grandfather used to warn him not to carry school books on vacation since they wouldn’t contain the knowledge he would be teaching.
