Ramesh Sippy only shot parts of the movie Sholay with Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, and Sanjeev Kumar, according to Sachin Pilgaonkar.
Recently, Sachin Pilgaonkar revealed something new regarding Ramesh Sippy’s iconic Sholay film. The film’s pivotal actor disclosed that the director did not oversee the full production. Sachin said that he and Amjad Khan supervised certain significant scenes of the action-drama starring Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra in an interview with Kunal Vijaykar for his YouTube channel Khane Mein Kya Hai.
Sachin Pilgaonkar on directing Sholay
“Rameshji decided to have a second unit to do some action sequences which don’t feature the main stars,” Sachin said from his experience working on the movie. These were only stray pictures. He had Mohammed Ali bhai, a stunt film director, for this. Alongside him was action director Azim bhai, who was also a well-known stunt filmmaker.
And the latter brought in Jim and Jerry, two guys from Hollywood. Ramesh wanted two people to speak on his behalf because they were foreign nationals. How would they find out about the movie and its plot? There were just two bekaar (useless) individuals in the unit at the time: Amjad Khan and me.
“He was only supposed to come when Dharamji, Amitji, and Hari bhai (Sanjeev Kumar) had work,” he continued. After Rameshji photographed those scenes, we took care of the rest.
About Sholay
Ahmed was portrayed by Sachin in the film Sholay. In Hindi cinema, Amitabh and Dharmendra’s portrayals of Jai and Veeru became legendary. Sanjeev Kumar, Hema Malini, Amjad Khan, Jaya Bachchan, Iftekhar, AK Hangal, Jagdeep, Asrani, Mac Mohan, Viju Khote, and other actors played significant roles in the film as well. One of the most popular movies in the writer-duo Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar’s career is Sholay.
Producer of the action-adventure drama was GP Sippy. Not only was it the highest-grossing Indian movie ever at the time, but it continued to be so until Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (1994). Prior to Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, becoming the longest running film in Maratha Mandir, this movie held that title as well.
