The internet is in shock over a few images of a rare pink dolphin that has been discovered in the United States and is garnering a lot of attention on social media. A lot of people even questioned if the images were “real” or “AI-generated.” The authenticity of the viral photos could not be independently confirmed by HT.com.
The X handle @1800factsmatter posted images of the unusual dolphin along with a statement stating that it was “rare pink dolphin spotted off the coast of North Carolina.”
The X handle stated in the comments section that pink dolphins “show up every now and then” and that the “last one was a few years ago near Louisiana.” The photographs are not artificial intelligence (AI)-generated, the handle claimed. Simply said, albino dolphins are uncommon.
The images capture the dolphin “surfacing and diving” off the US coast of North Carolina.

After being washed out of its natural home, a stunning and uncommon pink dolphin was found stranded on the shore of North Carolina Hatteras early on June 19. Another series of photos featuring the unique dolphin has a caption that reads, “A kind-hearted man saw the stranded dolphins and quickly took action to help him return to the ocean.”

The pictures of the “pink” dolphin were also uploaded by the X account Figen, who wrote, “A rare pink dolphin.”
Immediately after the images went viral, many on social media commented, “This is a bottlenose dolphin; they can be pink when they are albino, but not this pink. It is simply a photo-manipulated image. It is crucial to make clear that this is not an AI image because, in addition to not being real, it may raise questions about AI becoming overly realistic.
“That’s either a very nicely done toy or a dolphin that manages to keep the same posture in all of the photos,” someone said in response to the images.
Someone else merely wrote, “Fake!”
After closer inspection, a third person stated, “This is actually confirmed to be fake and possibly even AI-generated since it has a plastic look to it.”
