This weekend, Portsmouth and the southeast of England are under a yellow heat alert, according to the UK Health Security Agency (UKSHA). It’ll be in effect until tomorrow morning, September 2, at nine in the morning.
The UKSHA previously stated that “minor impacts are probable across the health and social care sector,” including “an increase in the vulnerable population’s use of healthcare services, an increase in their risk of mortality, and an increased potential for extremely warm indoor environments.”
In addition, a thunderstorm warning has been issued by the Met Office for Portsmouth, Hampshire, and other regions of the United Kingdom. This will take place from 4 a.m. until midnight. There is a “small chance of flooding and disruption from heavy showers and thunderstorms” in certain areas, according to the forecaster.
The afternoon and early evening will see a gradual shift in the risk of storms towards the north. Although the extent of these thunderstorms is highly unpredictable and many locations will miss them, when they do occur, there is a chance of flooding and disruption due to the 30 to 40 mm of rain that may fall in less than an hour, with possibly as much as 75 mm in one or two places. There will likely be more risks from frequent lightning strikes and hail in southern and central England.
Throughout the day, temperatures are predicted to stay in the low 20sC. At various times, there is a slight chance of rain and very little thunder. Forecasts call for high humidity and mostly cloudy conditions with sporadic sunny spells.
