With 48 points after a demanding season, Mohun Bagan Super Giants took home the coveted ISL League Shield, the trophy of supremacy in the 2023–24 campaign.
A rematch of last season’s final between Shield winners Mohun Bagan Super Giant and Cup winners Mumbai City FC will kick off the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024–25 season on September 13 at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata. The schedule for the first 84 games of the season, which runs through the end of this year, was released by the ISL on Sunday. On September 14, Bengaluru FC will play East Bengal FC in the first doubleheader of the season; the following day, on September 15, Kerala Blasters FC will host Punjab FC at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi. On opening weekend, Chennaiyin FC will also visit Odisha FC.
On September 19, Hyderabad FC will travel to Bengaluru FC for their first match. However, Hyderabad FC’s schedule of games is subject to them passing the AIFF Club Licensing.
Thirteen teams, including Mohammedan Sporting Club, the I-League champions, will compete in this season of the ISL. On September 16, the newest players will take on NorthEast United FC at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan, their home field in Kolkata.
With Mohammedan Sporting joining the ISL, Kolkata’s three most illustrious football teams—East Bengal, Mohun Bagan Super Giant, and Mohun Bagan—will compete for championships.
Six intense Kolkata derbies will be played throughout the season as a result of the three giants’ presence. October will see the first two Kolkata derbies of the season: Mohun Bagan Super Giant vs. Mohammedan FC on October 5 and Mohun Bagan Super Giant vs. East Bengal FC on October 19.
After a demanding season, Mohun Bagan Super Giant secured the coveted ISL League Shield, the trophy of supremacy, with 48 points.
There are very few similarities to any other football league in the world when it comes to a knock-out round, as Mumbai City, who finished second in the league phase, defeated Mohun Bagan Super Giant in the ISL final.
