“Cinema is only a slice of society, but I am not justifying what happened,” Mohanlal added. Members of AMMA are sensitive and prone to break easily.
Veteran actor Mohanlal, who resigned as president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) earlier this week, broke his silence on the Hema Committee report. He stated that the Malayalam industry as a whole, not just AMMA, should be held accountable, and that he is not a member of the “power group” mentioned in the report.
“Cinema is only a slice of society, but I am not justifying what happened,” he further stated. Members of AMMA are sensitive and prone to break easily.
“The report is very welcome. I had appeared before the committee, having divulged all of my knowledge. I do not belong to the power group that the report mentions. Several issues were mentioned in the report. There are answers for the whole Malayalam film industry. He stated, “AMMA is not responsible for every problem.
He said that everyone in the field ought to talk. “AMMA should not be crucified in isolation. Numerous organizations are participating. However, the questions are unique to us,” he remarked.
“This is a matter destroying the industry,” he expressed concern. To get the industry to where it is now, we had to work very hard. Please refrain from destroying the industry by concentrating only on this problem. AMMA is dealing with the inquiries. I haven’t escaped the problem. I was preoccupied with my film project and my wife’s surgery, so I wasn’t in Kerala.
Regarding the matter of multiple film industry professionals being prosecuted for crimes, Mohanlal remarked, “There is a government.” Errors are investigated by police, and a court system exists. There are tens of thousands of workers in this sector. It ought to proceed. Our goal is to preserve the sector. We can discuss the errors later. The report discusses how to advance the sector, he added.
Mohanlal expressed his desire for a similar committee to be formed in every industry. “We are surviving the tragedy of a large landslide that occurred.” A great number of people will be left defenseless if this industry collapses. An organization for young artists is also necessary to deal with their problems. He stated, “We have to make sure the industry doesn’t collapse.”
