
Meerut, Uttar Pradesh – The shocking murder of former Merchant Navy officer Saurabh Rajput has taken new twists as police uncover critical details. Saurabh was allegedly killed by his wife, Muskaan Rastogi, and her lover, Sahil Shukla. Motive and Affair
Saurabh and Muskaan had a love marriage in 2016, but their relationship soured when he discovered her extramarital affair with Sahil in 2021. Their landlord had even informed Saurabh after catching Muskaan and Sahil in a compromising situation. Though he initially sought a divorce, his family persuaded him to stay in the marriage. Muskaan later admitted that she and Sahil had been together since 2019 and that her family financially supported him.
Sahil was allegedly an alcoholic and often struggled financially. Muskaan told police that he frequently borrowed money, and her family had been paying for his rent and other expenses.
Failed Attempt and Execution
Police revealed that the duo first attempted to kill Saurabh on February 25 but failed. They finally executed their plan on March 3. Investigators have traced the shop where the suspects purchased the drum and other materials used in the crime.
After the murder, Muskaan and Sahil fled to Himachal Pradesh. When they returned, their landlord sent laborers to vacate the house, leading to the discovery of the crime.
Black Magic Claims Dismissed
Speculation arose regarding a black magic angle due to the gruesome nature of the murder. However, Superintendent of Police Ayush Vikram Singh clarified that no such evidence had been found, calling it a well-planned crime.

Financial Disputes and Allegations
Muskaan claimed Saurabh had ₹6 lakh in his account, of which ₹1 lakh was transferred to her and ₹1.5 lakh to his mother before his death. Police are verifying these transactions and alleging that Muskaan’s family misused Saurabh’s money to purchase property and luxury items.
Police are also investigating Saurabh’s financial records, his employment history in the Merchant Navy, and his time working at a bakery in London. Crime Discovery and Chilling Details
The murder came to light when laborers found the sealed drum and alerted police. Shockingly, Saurabh’s six-year-old daughter reportedly told neighbors, “Papa is in the drum,” raising concerns that she might have witnessed the crime.
Authorities have formed two teams to probe further, including collecting forensic evidence and tracking the suspects’ movements before and after the murder. A team will soon visit Shimla to gather additional clues.
The investigation continues as police work to ensure the accused face the harshest punishment.
