Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) has received the body of the third-year student studying computer science for postmortem examination.
It was the fourth student death at the esteemed Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IIT-G) this year when a 21-year-old student was discovered dead in his dorm room, according to police.
Students are protesting the death, arguing that the institute’s welfare and mental health services are insufficient.
The male student’s body has been sent to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for postmortem examination. He was from Uttar Pradesh.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of one of our community’s students. A spokeswoman for the institute stated, “We send our sincere condolences to the student’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.
We urge the student body to get in touch with our support systems. The spokesman went on, “IITG reiterates its dedication to creating a safe and encouraging environment for all students.
There is an investigation going on, according to a police officer.
“IITG remains dedicated to prioritising the mental health and well-being of our student community during these challenging times,” the spokesperson further added.
A 24-year-old MTech student was discovered deceased in her dorm room on August 9.
