To express their disapproval of a tribe being classified as a Scheduled Tribe, Narhari Zirwal and three other lawmakers made the decision to leap from the Mantralaya’s third story.
On Friday, Maharashtra Deputy Speaker Narhari Zirwal and three other lawmakers protested the inclusion of a group in the Scheduled Tribes category by jumping from the third floor, creating unparalleled scenes at the state headquarters in Mumbai. One level below, Mr. Zirwal and the three lawmakers—among them a BJP MP—landed safely on a net that was built in 2018 to deter suicide attempts within the building, known as the Mantralaya.
Mr. Zirwal, a supporter of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) faction led by Ajit Pawar, and the three lawmakers made the decision to leave Mantralaya in order to oppose the government’s alleged consideration of the demand that the Dhangar community be added to the Scheduled Tribes (ST) category. According to officials, none of them were hurt.
After falling onto the internet, the three lawmakers were seen in videos climbing back into the building.
