Luana Alonso of Paraguay was kicked out of the athletes’ village during the Paris Olympics due to her “inappropriate” behavior. On July 27, the glamorous 20-year-old swimmer was unable to proceed to the women’s 100-meter butterfly semifinals. Alonso was told to leave the area for acting unethically after losing the heats.
The Olympian allegedly skipped the village to sneak away to Disneyland in Paris rather than remaining to cheer on her teammates, according to The Sun. She was banned from the games as a kind of punishment. Larissa Schaerer, the head of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee, stated in a statement that “her presence is creating an inappropriate atmosphere within Team Paraguay.”
Schaerer continued, “We appreciate her following instructions and that she chose not to spend the night in the Athletes’ Village of her own free will. Alonso abruptly announced her retirement from the sport after missing out on qualifying for the semi-final by just 0.24 seconds, but she hasn’t spoken out about being expelled from the village yet.
With 565K Instagram followers, Alonso uploaded a photo of herself competing in the Olympics with the message, “It’s official now! I’m quitting swimming, and I appreciate your support so much! I only need to apologize and thank you, Paraguay.
On the social media site, she did, however, subsequently publish another image that included a carousel of pictures in which she is seen plunging into the Olympic pool. “Thank you for giving me the chance to dream. You have taught me how to persevere, fight, try, sacrifice, discipline, and many other things,” the woman captioned the photo.
