CBI gets CM’s 3-day custody, court says arrest not illegal
CM Arvind Kejriwal was ordered to CBI detention for three days on Wednesday by a municipal court, which ruled that his arrest in the Delhi excise policy issue was “not illegal.” In an eighteen-page ruling, Court of Vacation Judge Amitabh Rawat stated that the accused should be remanded since, at this point in the investigation, witness testimony and documentary evidence will be taken into consideration. “The investigating agency has the right to conduct an investigation. Since the law provides some protections, it is not yet possible to conclude that the arrest was unlawful based on the information in the file. But the agency shouldn’t be unduly vigilant, the court ruled. After the court granted the CBI permission to question Kejriwal, the agency detained him during the hearing and to produce documents for his arrest. The agency had sought five days of custody.
