John Barrowman, star of Torchwood and Doctor Who, has disclosed the health issues that led him to leave Celebrity SA after just 32 minutes on the show. It took Barrowman 32 minutes to leave Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins after he got to base camp.
The 57-year-old star of Doctor Who appeared in the sixth season of the Channel 4 reality series, which made a comeback on Sunday night, featuring celebrities participating in SAS winter warfare training in the southern islands of New Zealand. Barrowman was observed vomiting at some point following the initial challenge.
Following the contestants’ donning of their uniforms and preparation for viewing their accommodations, Barrowman began to sigh and announced to the group, “I’m out.” When Mark “Billy” Billingham asked Barrowman if he wanted to see a doctor, he responded, “No… I’m through.
“I just,” he continued. I know who I am and what I stand for, so it’s not for me. “After only 32 minutes on base, number 13 John is the first recruit to leave the course,” the show’s narrator stated.
“Then the tofu emerged and there was projectile vomit all over the place. “I decided not to injure or become sick in an attempt to prove something I don’t need to prove,” he remarked. And I was really thinking, ‘I am so at ease with who I am.'” I’m a really content person. “I made a mistake, but we all have problems and issues.”
Barrowman addressed the claims made during the episode that he had repeatedly exposed himself while working on the BBC One science fiction series Doctor Who and its sister program Torchwood. “I had thoughts of suicide, going out and trying to do certain things and harm myself, and a couple of times debating how I was going to kill myself,” Barrowman said in reference to the mental health damage that resulted from the incident. The problem was that my friends and family prevented me from succeeding.”
“The press implied that I was going around shoving my d*** on everyone’s shoulders,” he stated. I was destroyed by what had happened to me, but this course will enable me to move past it, and I want people to know the true me.
“I had to do a lot of nude scenes on Doctor Who and Torchwood,” he later added. I’d act foolishly if I were being foolish. I could perform a scene where I have one of my bollocks hanging out, or I would just shake and waggle.
It was reported by the media that I was a sexual offender. Though all of us have made foolish and foolish mistakes, the things that have been said about me will never go away now.”
The sister of former prime minister Boris Johnson, Rachel Johnson, reality star Pete Wicks, Olympic gymnast Ellie Downie, comedian Tez Ilyas, professional basketball player and Love Island star Ovie Soko, and world heavyweight champion boxer Lani Daniels are among the contestants in this series.
The lineup also includes former England rugby captain Chris Robshaw, TV presenter Cherry Healey, comedian Shazia Mirza, former professional boxer Anthony Ogogo, reality TV star Bobby Norris, former Geordie Shore star Marnie Simpson, and Love Island contestant Georgia Harrison.
In the first episode of the series, 38-year-old Norris, who is well-known for his appearances on The Only Way Is Essex, also talked about his wish to get over his phobias and fears and described the abuse he has received online.
“I think that is the nature of my job; a lot of people get online abuse and trolls and stuff,” he said, admitting that he had previously experienced fears and phobias.
“People spent the time to digitally insert my face into videos showing people getting shot, decapitated, and other horrific things.
“I let myself go down a rabbit hole and started injecting Botox into my face because, honestly, it felt like a mask.
“One day, I simply didn’t feel like I fit into it anymore.” All I wanted was to be content with who I was in my own skin.
Beginning on September 22 at 9 p.m., Channel 4 will broadcast Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, season six, every Sunday and Monday.
