He stated at Georgetown University that “politics in India has fundamentally changed” these days.
Rahul Gandhi, the former president of the grand old party, claims that the Congress “destroyed” prime minister Narendra Modi’s “idea” in the most recent Lok Sabha elections.
“The Congress party has certain very powerful characteristics as a political organization, and part of its design dates back to Mahatma Gandhi’s day. While I was watching the elections, the treasurer sat us down and informed us that your bank accounts were frozen. You can’t fight an election if your accounts are frozen, right? At the time, we genuinely had no answers. Gandhi stated at Georgetown University in Washington.
But the Congress Party fought the election, effectively dismantling the Modi concept. This is evident from watching the prime minister in Parliament right now. He’s imprisoned mentally. On his first trip to the US as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rae Bareli MP continued, “He is psychologically trapped and cannot come to terms with it.”
“Politics in India has fundamentally changed,” he continued. Gandhi was most likely alluding to the numerous “U-turns” that the BJP, which is currently in power, has made to maintain its one-party majority in the Lok Sabha, where it currently has 240 members out of 543 seats, down from 282 seats in 2014 and 303 seats five years later.
Conversely, the Congress increased its total by almost 50%, from 52 to 99 in 2019. This meant that Gandhi would become the official Leader of Opposition for the first time in ten years.
