With years of speculation, nonstop marketing, and enormous sales, the newest Grand Theft Auto game is at last coming out.
Grand Theft Auto VI, or GTA 6, is expected to be a massive financial success since the series’ previous installment sold hundreds of millions of copies. It is also expected to be a massive game for players, challenging their performance to the utmost and probably one of the consoles’ highlights of the present generation.
As the game approaches its late-2019 release date, here’s all we know about it.
The majority of what we are certain we know about the game comes from the Rockstar Games trailer, which provided a detailed look at the gameplay and visuals. That is visible up above.
Setting
Vice City, the 2002 game’s Miami-inspired setting, serves as the game’s setting. But unlike that other game, GTA 6 takes place in the present day instead of Vice City’s Miami Vice era from 1986.
It is also anticipated that Vice City would take place in Leonida, a much larger state modeled after Florida. In line with the less urban environments that have been featured in prior Grand Theft Auto games, that should allow players to explore a much larger territory and a variety of locales.
Characters
Lucia, the first female lead character in the series, seems to be the main character of Grand Theft Auto 6. Although not much is known about her, the teaser featured her dressed in jail garb and seemed somewhat involved in illicit activities.
She seems to be accompanied by another male, who is not yet identified but is probably her boyfriend and could be a playable character.
Since players could control three different characters in the previous game, it’s unclear if those characters are all that are playable in Grand Theft Auto 6. In later games, Rockstar might decide to focus more on other characters.
Game Play
In reality, no gameplay was shown in the trailer, and not much more has been revealed about it since. However, there’s no indication that GTA 6 will deviate from the series’ earlier entries.
It appears that you will be able to navigate a large open world with other online gamers as well as a single player campaign by running, driving, flying, shooting, and speaking. There will undoubtedly be a ton of additional minigames available, along with more strategic tasks like purchasing homes and collecting in-game vehicles and other items.
Release date
Rockstar has been progressively delaying the game’s release. Rumors have occasionally cast doubt on it while also aiding in its narrowing.
When the initial trailer for the game was revealed in December 2023, it was also announced that the game would launch in 2025.
Since then, a number of claims have surfaced indicating that Rockstar had originally planned to release the game early in the year, but that it wasn’t quite ready and would arrive later. There were even rumors that the game’s developers were planning to delay the game’s release until 2026 as a backup plan.
Take-Two Interactive, the game’s parent company, has now announced that it will launch in “fall 2025.” In other words, it might arrive at any time before November.
Platform
The game won’t be released on earlier platforms like the Xbox One or PlayStation 4, only the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 are covered by those release dates. Even while playing GTA 5 on a PC is still quite popular, Rockstar hasn’t stated a release date for that platform.
According to several developers, Rockstar is focusing on finishing the console version before releasing the PC version. But a developer who used to work at Rockstar says that might take a while.
