Oscar winner said that even if she goes by Emma professionally, she would like fans to use her real name.
Emma Stone has won two Oscars under her stage name and her films have made over $1 billion at the box office. However, she says she would now rather be named Emily.
Her co-star in the bizarre TV series The Curse, Nathan Fielder, disclosed in a joint interview with the Hollywood Reporter that the actors and staff people she collaborated with referred to her as Emily.
“I’d like to say something before we continue,” Fielder stated. Although Emily is her real name, she goes by Emma at work. I therefore always mention Emma to folks who don’t know her. However, from now on, I’ll just refer to Emily as Emily.
Stone answered, “You say, Emma.” You are free to express anything. When asked if she would correct a fan who went by Emily, she replied, “No.” That would be very pleasant. My dream is to be Emily.
Stone claimed that another performer in the Sag-Aftra union had already adopted Emma’s own name, so she had to use Emma professionally. It takes union membership to work on Hollywood productions.
This year, Stone received her second Academy Award for her portrayal of Bella Baxter in Poor Things, a historical fantasy comedy adapted on Alasdair Gray’s novel. Stone had previously won the best actress Oscar in 2017 for her leading role in La La Land. Yorgos Lanthimos directed it, and Mark Ruffalo, Willem Dafoe, and Ramy Youssef.
Stone said she was “in awe” of Lily Gladstone, who was predicted to win the best actress Oscar for her performance in Killers of the Flower Moon, during her acceptance speech at the Academy Awards. “I hope we continue doing this together; it’s been such an honor to be doing this with you.”
“Thank you for this gift of a lifetime in the role of Bella,” she said, concluding her remarks to Lanthimos and the entire crew behind Poor Things.
