A 4.0 magnitude earthquake struck the nation’s capital early on Monday, causing residents of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) to awaken to intense vibrations. According to an official who spoke to news agency PTI, the epicentre was close to Durgabai Deshmukh College of Special Education in Dhaula Kuan, south Delhi.
The National Centre for Seismology stated that the earthquake occurred at a depth of five kilometers at 5:36 a.m., adding that a loud noise was heard as it impacted Delhi-NCR, with tremors lasting for 35 seconds.
The shallow depth of the earthquake might have caused the rumbling sound that was experienced during the event. It might have resulted from many energy explosions and tectonic plate movement.
After feeling the powerful tremors, several individuals fled their homes in fear. On social media, videos of fans trembling and people standing outside their homes during the earthquake went viral. Reports of injuries or damage were not immediately available.
Every two to three years, low-magnitude earthquakes have been occurring in the lakeside Dhaula Kuan region. Authorities claim that a 3.3-magnitude earthquake was recorded there in 2015.

According to him, there have been 420 shallow earthquakes in the Dhaula Kuan region, but the national capital has been safe from them for a number of years.
During the earthquake, neither the Delhi Police nor the Delhi Fire Service received any calls regarding adverse situations.

On social media, many users expressed shock over the earthquake, stating that even though the magnitude was 4.0, the shakes were fairly severe.
The national capital and the surrounding territories are vulnerable to moderate to large earthquakes because Delhi-NCR is located in Seismic Zone IV.
