After earning respectable box office receipts on its first day, the movie has been losing ground ever since.
Due in large part to the unfavorable reviews the movie received on its first day of release, Suriya’s pan-Indian feature Kanguva has had a lackluster run at the Indian box office. The movie has been losing ground ever since it made a respectable amount of money on its first day.
But on its first Sunday, it recovered a little, and on Monday, its box office receipts dropped by more than 69%.
The movie, which had a budget of about Rs 350 crore, made Rs 24 crore on the day it was released, Rs 9.5 crore on day two, Rs 9.85 crore on day three, Rs 10.25 crore on day four, Rs 3.15 crore on day five, and approximately Rs 3.15 crore on day six.
According to the cinema trade web Sacnilk, this brought the movie’s total box office receipts in India to Rs 59.90 crore.
Using Braveheart, The Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, and Apocalypto as examples, Suriya stated in an interview prior to the film’s release that he is thrilled to have the opportunity to work on a project comparable to Hollywood.
“We have watched them several times and have been enthralled by them. “When are we going to do such films?” was the thought. Siva thought, “What if we go back a few hundred years?” What would happen if our folks had a complicated situation and lived such a life? Let’s imagine it, and that’s how it all started,” he remarked.
The movie, which was directed by Siva, takes place in two different timelines: 1070 and 2024. It connects a bounty hunter’s perilous current mission to a tribal warrior’s fight to defend his people against the Romans.
Suriya plays both bounty hunter Francis Theodore and tribal warrior Kanguva in the movie. Among the other notable actors in Kanguva are Disha Patani, Bobby Deol, Yogi Babu, Natarajan Subramaniam, Redin Kingsley, Mansoor Ali Khan, and Harish Umathan.
Karthi also makes two cameos in the movie, one as Commander Ryan and the other as Rathaangasan. On November 14, Kanguva was released in theaters across the globe in IMAX, 3D, and normal formats.
