Winger Dakota Joshua of the Vancouver Canucks has announced he will miss the start of training camp due to testicular cancer surgery.
Joshua reported that he felt a lump on one of his testicles this summer and that he underwent successful surgery to remove the tumor in a statement that the team shared on social media on Tuesday.
The Dearborn, Michigan, native, 28, stated that he is “working hard every day” to get back to his teammates and that he intends to play again “as soon as possible”.
Joshua urged men to get checked for testicular cancer on a regular basis, stating that the past few weeks have been “extremely challenging”.
The six-foot-three, 206-pound forward signed a new four-year, US$13-million contract with Vancouver at the end of June after leading the Canucks in scoring with 18 goals and 14 assists in 63 games the previous season.
The Canucks are set to open their training camp in Penticton, B.C., on Thursday.
