Acting premier ‘shocked’ at Bondi Junction incident
This statement was immediately provided to us by Acting Premier Penny Sharpe.
The news that there were several casualties near Bondi Junction late this afternoon surprised me.
Those who may have witnessed these horrifying events, as well as the victims, their families, and first responders, are in our thoughts and the thoughts of the NSW Government at this difficult time.
The Premier’s Department, NSW Police, and emergency services provide me with updates on a regular basis.
I’m going to get an official briefing soon.
The owner of the shop saw a policewoman shoot a knifeman outside.
The owner of a Westfield Bondi Junction store claims that after hearing shouting outside his establishment, he observed a man brandishing a knife and police officers. The man was subsequently shot dead when the weapon was thrown.
Rakesh Sanga, 33, told the Herald that the noise outside Bondi Alterations, his store on level five of the mall, startled him to the point of “extreme panic.”
He said, “I went to see what was happening.” “From the opposite side, there are police. Everyone is running as the man with the knife approaches.
“We flee to the opposite side of my store in a panic.”
He claimed that when the man—who was sporting a green T-shirt—threw the knife in the direction of a moving vehicle, a police officer shot him.
“I believe she fired two or three times,” he remarked.
A man outside the shop appeared to be dead, according to photos taken at the site.
Sanga claimed that although he had not closed the doors prior to the shooting, he had done it after it had occurred and turned out the lights.
He claimed he was instructed by the cops to “go inside, don’t go outside,” but that he was eventually allowed to exit the business. He then proceeded to the parking lot and made his way to his house in Sydney’s inner west.
Sanga claimed he was still unaware of all the specifics of what had transpired.
Following the incident, eight people—one of them a child—were brought to the hospital.
Eight individuals, one of whom was a child, were taken to the hospital after the attack in Bondi Junction on Saturday afternoon.
Sydney hospitals received eight patients from NSW Ambulance teams. One paediatric patient was transported to Sydney Children’s Hospital, two were brought to St. Vincents, two to Royal Prince Alfred, one to St. George, and one to Royal North Shore.
They are all trauma cases, but no condition reports are currently available, and no age information is being provided.
Teens terrified after being imprisoned in a center
A teenager who was at Kmart with his pals expressed to the Herald how horrified he was by what happened on Saturday afternoon.
13-year-old Angus Lund stated, “Being locked inside with a [attacker] was a very, very scary time for me and my friends.”
“Everyone sprinted for the rear exits.”
Later on, it was discovered that the accused assailant was shot dead outside the cheap store, and that after the shooting, authorities gave the man CPR.
A senior police officer from the Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command in the area fired his weapon, killing the individual who was accused of attacking.
The Federal Police are prepared to help.
According to sources, the Australian Federal Police are conferring with the New South Wales Police and will mobilize the joint counterterrorism unit if required.
While they continue to look into the attack’s motivation, the authorities cautioned the public against drawing hasty judgments.
A man is seen sprinting through a shopping center with a knife in a video.
There is footage of a man jogging through the mall while sporting a sports jersey and shorts with a knife.
The man appeared “scattered and chaotic,” according to a witness who had been close to a gym at the mall.
The man told Nine News, “You could tell it looked quite random, he was just running around with his knife. He wasn’t going for anyone personally.”
Occasionally, it was difficult to identify who was evil since we had also seen individuals pursuing him—I believe they had bollards on.
“Then we saw the guy with the knife, and we weren’t sure if they were trying to stop him, if they were a part of that crew, or if there were more people there at that time,” the statement reads.
‘Everyone was crying’: Witness sees body
A witness who claimed to have seen a dead corpse lying at the entrance to the Chanel shop on level four has been interviewed by this masthead.
The man, identifying himself as Bill and employed at a store on the fifth floor of the mall, claimed to have seen people running and then looked over the railing to the fourth floor.
“I saw everything clearly in front of me as soon as I turned to look across. The blood trail was clearly visible. A dead body was on the floor when I peeked into Chanel, Bill remarked.
“There was another woman who appeared to be trying to get assistance from security or bystanders, as her legs were raised, indicating that she was still alive.”
According to Bill, the blood trail spanned between 10 and 20 meters.
Although one of his friends saw the culprit, he claimed not to have, and they saw a “big knife” that was roughly 30 centimeters long.
Bill claimed that after hearing gunshots, he fled back into the business, where he saw that six or so customers and employees had locked themselves in the rear room.
“Everyone was in tears. To be honest, it’s rather alarming,” he remarked.
Another image viewed by this masthead depicts two bodies laying in the Chanel shop entryway — one near the doorway and the other further inside being attended to by two persons.
