BJP MLC Brijesh Singh Prishu, along with other guests, complimented the groom’s family during the wedding ceremony.
In a rare cross-border wedding, the son of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) corporator from Uttar Pradesh married a Pakistani woman through an online “nikah” on Friday night.
A BJP corporator named Tahseen Shahid arranged for his son Mohammad Abbas Haider to wed Andleep Zahra, a Pakistani citizen living in Lahore. However, Haider was unable to obtain a visa to travel to Pakistan because of the prevailing political unrest.
The families chose an online ceremony to ease the burden on them due to the severe state of the bride’s mother, Rana Yasmin Zaidi, who was hospitalized.
The bride’s family traveled from Lahore, while the groom’s family traveled from Uttar Pradesh to attend the ceremony at an imambara.
The wedding was performed by Shia cleric Maulana Mahfoozul Hasan Khan, who confirmed that Islamic law allows online “nikah” provided both sides are represented by religious officials and the woman’s consent is acquired.
Brijesh Singh Prishu, a BJP member of the Legislative Council (MLC), was one of the attendees.
Haider expressed optimism that his wife will soon be granted a visa to enter India, enabling their in-person reunion.
