On Monday, members of the public lynched Bangladeshi actor Shanto Khan and producer-director Selim Khan, his father.
Selim and Shanrto reportedly attempted to flee their village from Farakkabad Bazar in Balia Union, but were stopped by the locals. They reportedly exchanged gunfire with the locals in an attempt to get away.
But when they got to the Bagarabazar region, a mob found them and lynched them.
Selim Khan was well-known in Bengal and had produced numerous movies starring Tollywood actors. Shahenshah and Bidrohi, which starred Dhallywood superstar Shakib Khan, are two of his successful films.
After that, Shanto Khan appeared in numerous films that his father produced.
In the 2022 film Bikkhov, starring Joydeep Mukherjee, Rajatava Dutta, and Srabanti Chatterjee, Shanto Khan made an appearance.
Actor Dev told TOI about the lynching; he had served in Selim Khan’s Commando. “Monday, I had a conversation with Selim bhai. The director of Commando, Shamim Ahmed Rony, called me from the US a few hours later to see if I had any updates. He claimed that after learning something upsetting about Selim Bhai, his hands were shaking. I discovered that I was numb.”
Dev claimed to have been to Bangladesh multiple times and to have “always been amazed by the warmth of the people there.”
Actor Jeet from Tollywood, who has collaborated on numerous Bangladeshi projects, expressed his shock at the news on X (previously Twitter).
Selim was collaborating with Rituparna Sengupta on a number of projects, including Agnibina, and Bonny, Koushani Mukherjee, and Chhuti.
“It is distressing to learn of their passing. Bonny Sengupta told reporters, “I hope this phase ends and Bangladesh will be back on track soon.”
“This is shocking,” Bonny Sengupta continued. I had finished Production No. 1, one of his Bangladeshi productions.”
“I can’t believe he is no more,” actor Kaushani Mukhopadhyay, who collaborated with Shanto on the Bangladeshi film Piya Re, said to DNA. Shanto was well-respected and aspired to have a big influence in the business.”
