This evening during the MLB Home Run Derby, four-time Grammy nominee Ingrid Andress ascended the stage to play the National Anthem. However, her rough rendition left fans and social media users confused.
As anticipated, before a baseball game, Andress opened the event at Arlington, Texas’s Globe Life Field. But then she started singing, making mistakes along the way and evoking obvious reactions from the players present.
Social media jumped on the performance, drawing comparisons to Roseanne Barr’s iconic delivery of the song at a Padres game in 1990 and Fergie’s disastrous live rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the 2018 NBA All-Star Game.
Andress, who was born in Michigan and reared in Colorado, has enjoyed success in the country music industry. Her debut album, “Lady Like,” was released in March 2020. Andress scored two Billboard Hot 100 hits between then and her 2022 sophomore album “Good Person” with Sam Hunt’s “More Hearts Than Mine” and “Wishful Drinking,” which peaked at Nos. 30 and 47, respectively.
Andress has received four Grammy nominations over her career, including best new artist, best country song, and best country album in 2021. “Wishful Drinking” was added to the category for best country duo/group performance two years later.
She hinted at the start of a new chapter earlier today when she revealed the July 24 release date of her upcoming single, “Colorado 9.” She has performances booked in Nashville on July 17 and Denver on July 24 in anticipation of the song’s release.
