The CBI case concerning the Delhi liquor excise policy has resulted in an extension of Arvind Kejriwal’s judicial custody until September 3.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s judicial custody has been extended by the Delhi Rouse Avenue Court until September 3 in connection with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) case pertaining to the now-cancelled Delhi liquor excise policy for 2021–2022.
In addition, the court has postponed making a ruling on the CBI’s fourth supplemental chargesheet, which accuses Kejriwal and five other people. On September 3, the matter will be considered.
The leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is being held at the Tihar jail in Delhi in relation to cases of corruption and money laundering related to the purported excise policy scam that are being looked into by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the CBI, respectively.
On September 5, the Supreme Court will consider Arvind Kejriwal’s appeal.
The CBI asked for more time to file its affidavit, so the Supreme Court on Friday rescheduled the hearing on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s bail request in the excise policy case to September 5.
Kejriwal has filed two petitions: one contesting the CBI’s arrest of him and the other contesting the denial of bail.
The CBI claimed in its extensive affidavit that Kejriwal, working with Manish Sisodia, the deputy chief minister at the time, directed all significant decisions pertaining to the now-canceled excise policy.
CBI is acting like a puppet on BJP’s instructions, alleges AAP
The BJP and CBI, according to the AAP, are plotting to keep Arvind Kejriwal behind bars.
In a post on X, Sisodia charged that the CBI was holding up the legal proceedings while also informing the media to sway public opinion. He wrote, “The CBI is acting like a puppet on BJP’s instructions to keep Arvind Kejriwal in jail.”
The BJP responded by challenging the AAP to file a Supreme Court petition if they thought the CBI was “lying and biased.” The claims have not yet received a response from the CBI.
