After actor Nagarjuna, KTR’s farmhouse inspected over alleged encroachment

The working president of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), KT Rama Rao, had his farmhouse inspected by the HYDRAA on the outskirts of Hyderabad on Wednesday.

The farmhouse of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao was inspected on Wednesday by the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Protection Agency (HYDRAA), an exclusive organization established by the Telangana government to eradicate water body encroachments, according to people familiar with the situation.

Additionally, the HYDRAA authorities served notices to All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen Bandlaguda and BRS lawmaker Ch Malla Reddy’s educational institutions in Dundigal, which were allegedly affected by encroaching water bodies.

This development occurs just a few days after popular Telugu film actor Akkineni Nagarjuna’s N Convention Centre in Madhapur, Hyderabad, was demolished on August 24.

The KTR farmhouse in Janwada village of Shankarpally block on the outskirts of Hyderabad was inspected by a team of HYDRAA officials, revenue officials, and irrigation officials on Tuesday evening and again on Wednesday afternoon. The reason for the inspection was a specific report that the farmhouse was built in the buffer zone of Firangi Nala, also known as Bulkapur Nala, a canal that connects Osman Sagar reservoir, and that a portion of it has encroached into the lake.

To determine the extent to which it had encroached upon the lake and the buffer zone, the authorities measured the farmhouse and the canal.

“The authorities are investigating whether any norms were broken. We will submit a report following inspection, on the basis of which additional action would be taken, stated an irrigation department official who was aware of the development.

The state high court declined on August 21 to halt the demolition of the farm house in Janwada, which KTR claimed he had leased from his friend B Pradeep Reddy but did not own. However, the high court ordered the HYDRAA to follow the correct procedures and send notices prior to initiating any action.

Notices regarding the construction of the Marri Lakshman Reddy Institute of Technology (MLRIT) and the Institute of Aeronautical Engineering in the entire tank level and buffer zone of the Chinna Damera tank at Dundigal, on the outskirts of Hyderabad, were also served by the HYDRAA authorities to Marri Lakshman Reddy, son-in-law of BRS lawmaker Malla Reddy.

The authorities threatened to take action if he didn’t remove the constructions that weren’t built according to the rules, and they gave him a week to do so. “We filed a petition for a stay on the demolitions on Wednesday with the state supreme court. A court order is what we are awaiting, stated Lakshman Reddy.

Similar notices to demolish the Fatima Owaisi College at Bandlaguda in Hyderabad’s old city were sent to AIMIM a few days ago. The college is said to have emerged after encroaching on a portion of the Salkam Cheruvu.

Akbaruddin Owaisi, the floor leader of the AIMIM in the assembly, vehemently objected to the notice to demolish the Fatima Owaisi College. He said in a statement that the officials could kill him, but they could not blow up his college. He asserted that thousands of students were receiving free education from the organization he supported.

He proclaimed, “If you want, rain bullets on me again, but don’t demolish that institution,” alleging that the people behind the plans are envious of the institution’s success.

However, A V Ranganath, the IPS officer and commissioner of HYDRAA, stated that he had heard from parents and students of the educational institutions that were built on lakes. In a statement on Tuesday, he made it clear that “we shall not take hasty decisions on demolition of educational institutions that were built illegally.”

Ranganath stated that HYDRAA will first send notices to such institutions because the institutions are in the middle of the academic year and any demolition will have an impact on the students. “The administration needs to tear down the building and move the students somewhere else. We will take action if that doesn’t happen,” he declared.

A Revanth Reddy, the chief minister of Telangana, told reporters on Wednesday that there was no chance of reversing the decision to demolish illegitimate buildings that had emerged on lake beds.

“We are not involved in politics in any way. The residence of prominent Congress leader M M Pallam Raju was actually the first building to be destroyed by HYDRAA. Thus, we don’t get involved; the organization will decide how to proceed on its own,” he stated.

The Chief Minister declared that he would certainly have any illegal structures owned by him or his family demolished. He continued, “We are closely adhering to the Supreme Court’s guidelines on the protection of water bodies.”
