Fans were given a peek into the world of the blocky video game A Minecraft Movie on Wednesday when Warner Bros. released the first trailer for the film. April 4, 2025 is when the fantasy adventure film, directed by Jared Hess, is scheduled to open in theaters. Jack Black and Jason Momoa are shown confronting hostile Piglins in the minute and twenty-second clip.
First trailer for A Minecraft Movie released
The trailer features stunning visuals that portray the colorful world of Minecraft, set to the tune of The Beatles’ Magical Mystery Tour.
The familiar building blocks, monsters, and villains from the well-known video game are all present in the blocky universe. The School of Rock star says in the teaser, “Anything you can dream about here, you can make,” before introducing himself to a group of oddballs and saying, “I’m Steve.”
Who stars in A Minecraft Movie?
In addition to Black and the Aquaman actor, Emma Myers (Wednesday), Danielle Brooks (The Color Purple), and Sebastian Eugene Hansen (Just Mercy) round out the main cast. A Minecraft Movie is also expected to feature appearances from Jennifer Coolidge (Legally Blonde), Kate McKinnon (Barbie), and Jemaine Clement (Men in Black 3).

Four misfits, Garrett ‘The Garbage Man‘ Garrison, Henry (Hansen), Natalie (Myers), and Dawn (Brooks), find themselves dealing with everyday issues when they are unexpectedly drawn through a mysterious portal into the Overworld, a strange, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination, according to the synopsis for the Minecraft movie, according to People.
“They must conquer this world (and defend it from evil entities like piglins and zombies) in order to return home. They will have to go on a magical journey with an unexpected, knowledgeable craftsman named Steve (Black). The description continues, “Together, their journey will test all five of them to be fearless and to rediscover the qualities that make them individually creative—the very abilities they need to succeed back in the real world.
