Team USA was able to hold off Germany in its last game before the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, finishing its exhibition tour with a flawless 5-0 record.
It wasn’t simple, as with less than four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Germany led 82–81. LeBron James, the oldest player on the basketball team and the flagbearer for the United States, had a significant role in helping the team overcome the deficit.
James finished the game with a game-high 20 points on way to a 92-88 victory for the United States, scoring their final 11 points on 4-of-4 shooting. In addition, the 39-year-old—who is currently the oldest player in the NBA—scored six rebounds, four assists, a steal, and a block.
Joel Embiid led all American scorers with 15 points, followed by Stephen Curry with 13 and Anthony Davis and Anthony Edwards with 11 and 10, respectively. In total, Germany shot 35.8% from the field, while the United States shot 34-69 (49.28%).
Franz Wagner, a teenage star from the Orlando Magic, led Germany with eighteen points, seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
Franz Wagner scored 18 points to lead Germany. Dennis Schroder finished with 13 points and 10 assists, while Andreas Obst, the hero of Germany’s victory over the United States in the World Cup semifinals the previous year, finished with 14. Moritz Wagner scored 12 points, and Daniel Theis added 13 for Germany.
The Americans concluded their exhibition schedule with a perfect 5-0 record, although only one match proved to be an absolute breeze. That was against Serbia, who the United States will play in their first Olympic game of the summer on Sunday.
