Prominent fast bowler Mohammed Shami disclosed that Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, dislikes playing against him in the nets. Notably, Shami’s ankle ailment has kept him out of action since the 2023 ODI World Cup. He had a successful operation in February of this year, and since then, he has been recovering at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru in order to get well again.
The 33-year-old recently spoke about his friendship with prominent Indian batsmen Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli during an interview with Shubhankar Mishra. The speedster jokingly disclosed in his conversation that the captain of India dislikes facing him in the nets.
‘Mai isko khelna pasand nahi karta’ is what Rohit to pehle hi kehta hai. “Rohit says I don’t like to face him, he refuses to bat against me,” Shami smiled. “Woh to pehle hi mana kar deta hai.”
Speaking further forward, Shami talked about his enjoyable sparring sessions with Virat Kohli, in which the two of them like taking the other on.
“I always feel like we are challenging each other when I’m around Virat. He makes everything seem so easy.” I like to get him out, but he likes to hit excellent shots. That is a reflection of the relationship and closeness. It also aids in concentration and effort when you practice (fielding positions), such as two gully fielders and two (imaginary) slips in place. I so issue Virat with a challenge to attack me and score runs. We find such things enjoyable “Shami said.
Shami’s sensational run in ODI World Cup 2023
With 24 wickets from seven innings, Shami finished as the tournament’s best wicket taker after an incredible run in the ODI World Cup 2023. Shami didn’t play in India’s opening four games, but an injury to all-rounder Hardik Pandya made room for him in the starting lineup. In the semi-final match against New Zealand, the speedster also recorded the highest bowling stats by an Indian in One-Day Internationals (7/57).
