The Republican National Convention takes place July 15-18 in Milwaukee.
Just a few days after an attempted assassination attempt on him at a Pennsylvania rally, former President Donald Trump will accept his party’s presidential nomination at the Republican National Convention, which gets underway on Monday in Milwaukee.
The party’s formal program will be decided upon, GOP heavyweights are expected to energize the base, and Trump’s unidentified running mate will make an appearance throughout the four days of the convention.
Here’s what you should know about the RNC and how to keep up with everything that happens.
When and where is the RNC?
Milwaukee will host the Republican National Convention from July 15–18, 2024.
The Milwaukee Bucks’ home court, Fiserv Forum, will serve as the primary venue for events. Events will also be held at Panther Arena and the neighboring Baird Center.
The RNC’s location in Milwaukee presents a strategic advantage. In November, Wisconsin will be a key battleground state that both President Joe Biden and Donald Trump want to win.
Wisconsin went to Trump over Hillary Clinton by a slim margin in 2016. Then, in 2020, Biden defeated Trump, albeit by a slim margin.
What is the RNC schedule?
Every day of the convention will have a “theme,” the Trump campaign said earlier this week in partnership with the RNC. Themes centered around Trump’s “Make America Great Again” catchphrase.
The topic for Monday is “Make America Wealthy Again;” “Make America Safe Once Again;” is on Tuesday. “Make America Strong Again” is the Wednesday theme, while “Make America Great Again” is the Thursday theme.
A comprehensive master calendar featuring a weekly schedule of events has been made public by the RNC.
Who is set to speak at the RNC?
A comprehensive schedule of the speakers, many of whom are prominent figures and up-and-coming talents in the Republican Party, has not yet been made public by the RNC.
It is anticipated that Trump’s choice for vice president would make a speech at the RNC, but it is not yet known when or who Trump’s running mate will be.
According to a source who spoke with News, Nikki Haley, a former Republican presidential contender, will speak at the RNC on Tuesday night.
An News representative stated that Haley had not received an invitation to the event before. Since then, that has altered, which naturally may indicate party unity in the wake of the shooting in Pennsylvania.
According to a source close to News, a number of celebrities, including TV personality Savannah Chrisley, UFC President Dana White, and rapper and model Amber Rose, are scheduled to speak at the event in support of Trump.
Melania Trump, the former first lady, is anticipated to attend the RNC, according to people familiar with the situation, though it’s unclear if she will speak.
How can I watch the RNC?
Events at the convention will be aired live online by the Republican National Committee.
Special News coverage of the RNC will air every day of the conventions from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET in primetime on and from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m. ET on News Live.
News Live will provide extensive coverage of the convention every day, and Hulu will also provide live reporting throughout the day.
As the convention events take place, News Digital and 538 will live blog the latest news from the event and offer insight.
What is the GOP party platform?
The entire RNC will vote to endorse the GOP’s 2024 platform during the event. Earlier this week, the 2024 platform committee adopted a platform that softens language on the abortion issue by voting 84–14.
Conservatives who oppose abortion, like former vice president Mike Pence, have attacked the platform for its shift in position.
