During a tank drill in Mandir Morh, 148 kilometers from Leh, five Army soldiers are thought to have been washed away.
Five Indian Army soldiers sadly perished when their T-72 tank was washed away by flash floods when they were crossing a river. Among them were four jawans and one Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO). The five bodies have now been found; the accident happened in the Daulat Beg Oldie area.
According to PTI sources, the incident occurred early on Saturday along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Nyoma-Chushul sector.
According to officials, the incident happened during an exercise at around one in the morning close to Mandir Morh, which is 148 kilometers from Leh.
Rajnath Singh, the minister of defence, expressed sadness on Saturday over the deaths of five Indian Army men in the incident.
“We are deeply saddened by the deaths of five of our valiant Indian Army men who were involved in an unfortunate mishap while crossing a river in a tank in Ladakh. Rajnath Singh wrote on X, “We will never forget the exemplary service of our gallant soldiers to the nation.”
“One JCO and four Jawans were among the five men inside the tank at the time of the event. Defense authorities told ANI that although there are still people being searched for, one individual has been found.
