The men’s and women’s squads of the Indian cricket team will want to build on their successful campaign in 2023 as they prepare for another exciting year of cricket in 2024.
While the Indian women’s cricket team defeated England and Australia handily in Test cricket, the men’s team advanced to the finals of the ICC World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup in 2023.
This year, the Indian cricket teams, both men’s and women’s, will participate in numerous bilateral series both at home and away in all three forms. For both cricket sides, though, the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 will take precedence.
The Indian men’s team last won an ICC trophy in 2013, winning the ICC Champions Trophy after defeating England in the championship match. MS Dhoni guided the team to victory. Even though they have advanced to the final of both the ODI and T20 World Cups, the women’s team has never taken home an ICC title.
The Indian men’s team played a Test series in South Africa to start 2024. The games were played as part of the 2023–25 World Test Championship cycle. India’s first domestic fixture of the year was a T20 series consisting of three matches, which began on January 11, against Afghanistan.
With the start of India’s five-match Test series against England on January 25, January was an especially hectic month.
Indian cricket players will participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2024 in addition to the international tour. India has no international matches slated during the IPL 2024 window, which runs from March to May. The squad will go to the West Indies and the USA for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in June after the IPL.
India will host Bangladesh and New Zealand in July, go on white-ball trips to Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka, and end the year with a five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series in Australia.
In the meanwhile, the Indian women’s cricket team will play Australia at home in a One Day International (ODI) series to begin 2024. The athletes will compete in the February–March 2024 Women’s Premier League (WPL).
In October, the women’s squad will go for Bangladesh to compete in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. India’s last assignment of the year is an away trip to Australia for a three-match ODI series, and they will also host the West Indies.
