Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson is really happening. Netflix steps into the fight game for the first time to host the bizarre boxing crossover.
Paul, 27, and Tyson, 57, engage in an exhibition boxing match at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on July 20. The bout will be streamed globally by Netflix, but not come with a PPV price tag. Tyson’s legend and vast experience have him as a modest underdog. What Paul lacks in longevity he should make up for with youth, commitment and a qualified team behind him.
Additionally, the fight will be a recognized official match approved by the Texas commission. There will be eight two-minute rounds of fighting, and the gloves will be a little bigger than usual.
Paul stated at the May press conference that “after the contract was signed, we got a call from Mike’s team and they were like, ‘Hey, he wants it to be a pro fight for sure.” “He desires that. I admire Mike for wanting to stake everything on the line, and if that’s how he felt, then let’s proceed.”
Paul (9-1, 6 KOs) is a boxer who is all in. Before moving on to testing the sweet science with UFC fighters and champions, the YouTuber began boxing other social media celebrities. Paul has veered away from his previous path of defeating smaller, more experienced MMA fighters like Nate Diaz and Anderson Silva in favor of a more conventional one. Paul has won several fights by knockout against unidentified opponents before Tyson’s declaration.
Since his exhibition fight against fellow legend Roy Jones Jr. in 2020 ended in a draw, Tyson (50-6-2 NC, 44 KOs) has not boxed in public. Power is thought to be the last to leave, and “Iron” Mike will need it to defeat a rival who is thirty years younger than him. With victories over Michael Spinks and Larry Holmes, the former undisputed world heavyweight boxing champion is one of the greatest of all time.
On the undercard, Katie Taylor will face Amanda Serrano for the undisputed super lightweight championships in an exciting rematch. In April 2022, the two ladies headlined an event at Madison Square Garden, where Taylor prevailed in a split decision to maintain her unchallenged lightweight titles. The two will now compete in the same weight class after Taylor won the titles in November by defeating Chantelle Cameron by majority decision.
