The Houston Texans confirmed that wide receiver Tank Dell suffered injuries in a shooting on Saturday night in Sanford, Florida.
Dell received a minor injury, but the Texans announced on Sunday that he was well enough to be discharged from the hospital.
The Texans said they will release additional details later and that they were in communication with him and his family. According to click2houston.com, Dell was in Florida visiting his mother at Daytona Beach.
Sports found out that police were sent to the scene of an early-morning shooting at the Cabana Live nightclub on Sunday after getting in touch with the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office. A sheriff’s office spokeswoman, however, declined to confirm the identity of any of the victims.
A 16-year-old suspect was taken into custody, per the arrest report, after witnesses claimed that someone inside the club pulled out a gun and started shooting at the throng of people. He faces four charges, including using a handgun while committing a felony and attempted murder.
One of the biggest rookie surprises of the previous draft, Dell was selected by the Texans in the third round of the previous one. He was born in the nearby city of Daytona Beach, Florida. A broken leg occurred during a Week 13 game against the Denver Broncos, yet he still managed to catch 47 catches for 709 yards and seven touchdowns.
Last month, Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans stated that Dell was progressing as planned with his recovery and should be prepared for off-season exercises.
A heated argument turns into gunfire
Although an independent confirmation of Dell’s injury from the Cabana Live shooting has not yet been provided by USA TODAY, investigators from the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office informed reporters that the shooting began as a verbal altercation and that the gunman shot ten people before being taken down by a venue security guard. According to deputies, the victims’ wounds were largely to their lower extremities and were not life-threatening.
Cabana Live said on Facebook that the location had been set aside for a private gathering. In a statement to the local media, the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office stated that because of the huge number of people there, deputies were policing the area surrounding the business when they heard gunshots and observed the crowd dispersing.
According to officials, the suspect was checked into the Juvenile Detention Center.
