On April 26, 1999, at around 11.47 a.m., Jill Dando’s lifeless body was found on the threshold of her West London residence.
After being taken to the hospital in a hurry, medical personnel declared her dead at 1:00 pm that same day.
A single gunshot wound to the head was the cause of her death.
Her neighbor next door claimed to have seen a man leaving the scene. They described him as tall and about forty years old. This is believed to be the only time her purported killer has been sighted.
On May 21, 1999, Jill Dando’s funeral took place at Weston-super-Mare’s Clarence Park Baptist Church.
As her casket made its way through the beach town, thousands of people lined the streets, and about 2,000 people congregated outside the church.

It is believed that in connection with her killing, police have spoken with over 2,500 witnesses and obtained over 1,000 statements.
In the early 2000s, Barry George, a local, was found guilty of her murder and sentenced to prison.
But after serving eight years in jail, he was declared not guilty after a successful appeal and retrial.
To date, no other person has been accused of Jill Dando’s slaying.
