Today at 4:30 pm, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) will dedicate three freshly renamed stands at Wankhede Stadium to recognize Sharad Pawar, Ajit Wadekar, and Rohit Sharma’s contributions to Indian cricket.

“The Rohit Sharma Stand has been renamed in honor of India’s ODI captain at his home stadium’s Divecha Pavilion Level 3.
Grand Stand Level 4 is devoted to former India captain Ajit Wadekar, whereas Grand Stand Level 3 is now named in honor of former BCCI president Sharad Pawar.The MCA approved this decision during its 86th Annual General Meeting last month.

With his Test debut in 2013 and his appointment as full-time captain of India in 2022, Rohit joins a small club of cricket greats who already have stands at Wankhede named after them, including Vijay Merchant, Dilip Vengsarkar, Sunil Gavaskar, and Sachin Tendulkar.
India won the ICC Champions Trophy in March 2025 and the T20 World Cup in 2024 while he was captain.

One of India’s best slip fielders and a fashionable No. 3 batsman, Ajit Wadekar, helped the country win two landmark Test series abroad in 1971: one in England and one in the West Indies.
Between 1966 and 1974, he participated in 37 Test matches and two ODIs. In 1958–59, he made his first-class debut. At the age of 77, he died in August 2018.
Longtime administrator Sharad Pawar was instrumental in getting the 2011 World Cup to India while serving as president of the BCCI from 2005 to 2008.
