AR Rahman and Wife Divorce: According to the attorney, the decision “comes after significant emotional strain in their relationship”.
After over 30 years of marriage, Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman and his wife Saira jointly announced today through their attorney that they have “made the difficult decision to separate” from one another.
“After many years of marriage, Mrs. Saira and her husband Mr. A R. Rahman have made the difficult decision to separate from each other,” their attorney, Vandana Shah and Associates, said in a statement.
According to the attorney, the decision “comes after significant emotional strain in their relationship”.
“Despite their deep love for each other, the couple has found that the tensions and difficulties have created an insurmountable gap between them, one that neither party feels able to bridge at this time,” the statement continued, emphasizing that the “decision comes out of pain and agony” .
“Mrs. Saira and her husband Mr. A R. Rahman request privacy and understanding from the public during this challenging time, as they navigate this difficult chapter in their life,” the statement continued.
The composer expressed regret that the pair was unable to reach the “grand thirty” but expressed optimism that “this shattering” would have some significance.
“We had wanted to make it to the big thirty, but everything seems to have an end. The weight of wounded hearts may make even God’s throne shake. Even though the parts might not find their home again, we look for meaning in this shattering. Rahman said on X, “We are grateful to our friends for their generosity and for protecting our privacy at this delicate time.
Khatija, Raheema, and Ameen are the couple’s three children; they were married in 1995.

He had urged his mother to find her a bride who had “some education, some beauty, and loads of humility,” Ms. Garewal then reminded Rahman.
Rahman grinned and gave a nod of approval.
When asked how they got married, Rahman further disclosed that his mother had discovered Saira’s sister close to a Sufi shrine.
