In an unexpected development, a leaked medical report has raised questions about the gender identity of Imane Khelif, the Algerian fighter who recently won gold in women’s boxing at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. The document, obtained by French journalist Djaffar Ait Aoudia, states that Khelif has XY chromosomes and internal testicles, which may indicate a condition known as 5-alpha reductase insufficiency.
The study was written in June 2023 by specialists from the Mohamed Lamine Debaghine Hospital in Algiers and the Kremlin-Bicêtre Hospital in Paris. The biological characteristics of Khelif are described in the study, including the absence of a uterus and the presence of internal testicles. According to Redux, an MRI also showed the presence of a micropenis.
However, this information is not new because Khelif’s XY chromosomes were already revealed. The fighter was prohibited by the International Boxing Association (IBA) from competing in the World Championship Gold Medal bout in New Delhi back in 2023.

Khelif’s gender became an election issue in US?
Khelif’s gender became an election issue when Donald Trump used her example in an advertisement attacking the Biden-Harris administration’s gender-ad sports policy. Republican lawmakers like Vivek Ramaswamy and JD Vance also said they would not allow men to play in female-only sports when asked about their views on transgender issues.
Khelif had already said she was born a woman in response to the gender controversy. “Like every other woman, I am a woman. I am qualified since I was born as a woman and I live as one. She asserted that she had been greatly affected by the gender debate that was caused by former US President Donald Trump, novelist J.K. Rowling, and Tesla CEO Elon Musk. She accused Musk and Rowling of “acts of aggravated cyber harassment” and filed a criminal complaint against them with French police.
