Yogurt that has been contaminated may include a yeast strain that can make immunocompromised individuals sick.
Costco yogurt is being recalled for the second time in as many weeks after producer Danone Canada stated that the product might include a kind of yeast that could infect those with weakened immune systems.
The recall concerns Costco’s Kirkland Signature Probiotic Yogurt, which is sold in 24-packs of 100-gram servings and was purchased in its Canadian warehouses between September 3 and September 19, according to a notice published on the retailer’s website on September 23 by Danone Canada.
The best-before dates for the impacted goods are October 18, October 20, and October 22.
Danone stated that since yeast is not known to flourish in cold temperatures, there was no risk to food safety.
The maker of the yogurt advised consumers to return it to a Costco warehouse for a complete refund and to refrain from eating the product.
A Costco brand of yogurt is being recalled for the second time in a month.
Greek yogurt sold in 24-packs under the Kirkland Signature brand at Costco was recalled earlier in September because of mold.
As per the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, the recalled products were distributed in the following states: Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec, and Saskatchewan.
