Resignation of Arvind Kejriwal: The meeting will take place at Kejriwal’s official residence in Delhi’s Civil Lines.
One day after the latter announced his resignation as chief minister, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal will meet with his former deputy, Manish Sisodia, in the nation’s capital on Monday.
A party official says that the two leaders will probably talk about Kejriwal’s successor as chief minister of Delhi.
“Today, Kejriwal and Sisodia are going to meet. This will be the first gathering following their decision. The topic of the next chief minister is also expected to come up at the meeting, the AAP leader stated, as reported by PTI.
The gathering will take place at Arvind Kejriwal’s official residence in Delhi’s Civil Lines.
After two days, Arvind Kejriwal declared on Sunday that he would step down as Delhi’s chief minister. In a few days, he promised, the AAP MLAs would meet, and a party colleague would assume the role of chief minister.
Kejriwal had declared that only after winning the assembly elections would he and Manish Sisodia retake their positions as chief and deputy ministers, respectively.
Kejriwal declared that he would not take the chair until he received a “certificate of honesty” from the Delhi government.
“After two days, I’m going to step down and ask people if I’m honest. I want to make a public appeal: please vote for me if you believe that Kejriwal is sincere. Please do not vote for me if you believe that Kejriwal is guilty. “Every vote you cast will serve as a testament to my integrity,” he declared.
The names of Kejriwal’s wife Sunita and the ministers of Delhi, Atishi and Gopal Rai, are circulating as potential successors after his unexpected announcement.
The AAP chief’s action was referred to as “drama” and a “confession of crime” by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The party added that he resigned due to limitations placed on his access to the Chief Minister’s office by the Supreme Court.
The ED detained Arvind Kejriwal on March 21. Last Friday, he was allowed to leave jail after being granted regular bail by the Supreme Court.
The Delhi Assembly’s current term is scheduled to end on February 11, 2025. But Kejriwal has insisted that the elections take place in November.
Delhi’s most recent assembly election took place on February 8, 2020. In the 70-member assembly, the AAP won 62 seats and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) 8 seats.
